KUMIHIMO
Kumihimo
Kumihimo are said to have started in Heian period and has a history of more than 1000 years. Back in those days, it was used as decorative in shrines and temples or traditional ceremonial court dress (sokutai) for the nobilities, then later it was used for strings to bind armors and weapons for the samurais. Later, its usage had changed to decorative items of clothes such as Haori cords or Obi bands, where numerous designs were created.
There are more than 40 kinds of basic combinations. A wide variety of combinations and affluent color patterns is one of the features of Japanese Kumihimo.
Traditional craftsmanship developed in long years are newly evolved to various scenes, not limited to the Kimono culture.
京くみひも
くみひもは平安時代に始まり千年以上の歴史があると言われています。
当初、寺社仏閣などの装飾品や貴族の束帯として使われ、その後武士が使う鎧兜や武具などを縛る紐として用いられてきました。そして羽織紐や帯締めなど衣服の装飾的アイテムへとその用途は変わり、数多くのデザインが生み出されてきました。
基本的な組み方だけでも40種類以上あり、多種多様な組み方、色柄の豊富さは日本のくみひもの特徴の一つといえます。
長年培われてきた伝統の技術は、着物文化にとどまらず様々なシーンで新しい進化を遂げています。
